27/05/23 - 3rd XI v Dartford 3rd XI

The Vine 3s playing Dartford 3s at Otford won the toss and skipper Hugo Tudor wasted no time in electing to bat. He was quickly questioning this decision as the innings resembled a procession with what should be a strong batting line up misfiring horribly. Andy Akerman, Pulkit Verma, Ben Harvey , Henry Smith and Jack Masding all fell before the score reached 40. Hilton Henderson and Will Peters then steadied the ship as the 3s reached 80-5 at drinks. After much chat about batting til 30 overs Hilton fell second ball after drinks and skipper Hugo Tudor joined Will Peters. These two added 39 before Peters missed a straight one as Peters departed for a well made 42. Ryan Gavin was next up and after a somewhat jittery start played some good shots and Tudor and Gavin added 34 before Tudor miscued and was out for 31. A few more lusty blows followed and the Vine closed on 165 all out. The score felt a few short but the Vine were definitely in the game.

The Dartford openers then came out and played some very good attacking cricket and got off to a flyer. The very first ball from Ryan Gavin was lent on and went straight down the ground for 4 - an ominous sign. The bowlers were rapidly rotated trying to find a way to get a foothold in the game and eventually Ben Harvey got the breakthrough as Henderson held on to a catch off a terrible long hop. Dartford were way ahead of the run rate and drinks were taken early as they needed only 45 off 22 overs. Despite Harvey picking up 2 further wickets and bowling an excellent spell of leg spin with 3-33 off his 9 overs, the Vine were finished off in the 30th over and lost by 6 wickets. A fine performance by Dartford 3s.
