Sevenoaks Vine 3s hosted Bexley Park 1s at Otford and having lost the toss were inserted on a green and soft wicket. Andy Akerman Steve Bezuidenhout and Pulkit Verma played a few nice shots before all three were caught behind the wicket and the Vine were in trouble at 24-3. Hilton Henderson and Satvik Kansal steadied the ship and added 50 before Kansal was bowled for 22. Jack Masding then joined Henderson and they kept the scoreboard ticking along nicely both playing some good attacking shots before Masding was run out for 29 and the Vine were 112-5. Kevin Matthew departed first ball and was followed soon after by Hilton Henderson who fell for a well made 43. Mark Poole and Hugo Tudor then added 15 off the last 2 overs to take the score to 136-8 off 40 overs. Ryan Gavin and Hilton Henderson opened the bowling and quickly reduced Bexley Park to 19-3. It could have been better for the Vine with several very strong LBW shouts being turned down. Bexley Park then recovered to 70-3 after 20 overs and the game was finely balanced . Saihaj Bhathal extracted prodigious turn but had no luck for his 0-19 off 6 overs. Skipper Hugo Tudor then came on and picked up 2 wickets in his second over to swing the game back towards the Vine at 77-5. Runs kept coming before Mark Poole struck and next over Tudor picked up his third - 94-7. With 23 needed off 5 overs the number skied a catch off Tudor to Verma at mid off who took a very good catch. Next over Poole finally got rid of Bexley Park’s opener who had held the innings together with 38 off 93 balls. This left the last pair needing 18 to win off 23 balls. Their last batsman clubbed a 4 off the returning Ryan Gavin who then all but bowled him with keeper Akerman so surprised it missed the stumps 2 byes were conceded. Next over Poole all but bowled the no 10 as the batsman desperately slogged across the line and the ball went straight over middle stump. Next a chaotic bit of running created a run out chance that Bhathal missed. Down to the last over and 3 to win . Two singles off the first two balls from Gavin brought the scores level then two dot balls followed. Finally another slog across the line got a leading edge over the infield and Bexley Park had snatched the victory. A disappointing ending but a great game of cricket.
