Sevenoaks 1XI travelled down to the coast to meet Folkstone CC in Gameweek 5 of the Kent Championship on Saturday.
With rain and windy conditions the Vine won the toss and sent the hosts in to bat. Opening the bowling, Tommy Richards (2-30) and Chris Vernon (1-27) kept the hosts quiet as a couple of early wickets saw the score on 20-2. Henry Proctor (1-12) and Brad Hope then followed showing skill and precision as they managed the middle overs. Following drinks with the score on 61-4, spin played a big role. Sevenoaks spinners Sam Jones (1-27) and Luke Schlemmer (1-29) going for just 56 runs in 19 overs between them. Regular wickets fell in the day seeing the hosts limp to 163-7 at the end of 50 Overs.
Following the interval Kent Opening Batsman Ben Compton and former Kent wicket keeper Harry Houllion strode to the crease and got things underway. Some early stroke play got the innings going before Houllion (7) fell. Schlemmer (25) and Compton (46) then put on a 62 run partnership taking the visitors comfortably ahead. Both batters were soon out bringing Brad Hope (28 not out) and Chris Vernon (14 not out) to the crease. With some poor light and weather the duckworth lewis scoring system was introduced. The Vines target of 162 was revised down meaning that at the point the players left the field for poor weather Sevenoaks Vine comfortably won by 7 wickets.
The first team are now 4/5 wins and are currently in 2nd place only 1 point behind the first placed Bickley Park.
