SVCC Men's 1st XI v Bromley 1st XI (H) - 01.06.24

The Vine hosted Bromley in Sevenoaks on Saturday, winning the toss the home team elected to bowl first.

A brilliant opening spell from Tommy Richards (3-29) and Chris Vernon ensured the visitors did not get off to fast start. Henry Proctor (3-40) stepped up to claim two quick wickets in the middle halting all momentum as the score went from 55 for no loss to 84 for 4. Some steady stroke play in the middle and a 5th wicket partnership of 82 got the visitors back in the game taking the score near the 200 mark, the vine pulled it back in the final 5 overs as the hosts set 226 in the first innings

Ben Price (71) and Vernon opened up, and got things moving on the front foot. Price's stroke play a stand out on the day. The introduction of spin saw a halt in proceeding as the fall of 3 wickets for only 30 further runs put the pressure back on the Vine. Left arm orthodox Krish Daniel the pick of the bowlers taking 5 for 33. The vine lost regular wickets in the middle slipping from 113/4 to 144/9. Eventually the final wickets fell. All out for 153, a loss of 73 runs on the vine.
