Sevenoaks Vine 3s had their first league game of the season away at Bromley 4s.
Charlie Williams in his first game as captain lost the toss and the Vine were in the field. Mark Poole and Hilton Henderson opened and whilst Poole was very accurate Henderson struggled to find his rhythm and Bromley were quickly 30-0 off 6 overs. Williams turned to the off spin of Ollie Bromley and he struck twice in his first over to wrest some control back. After a good but wicketless spell Poole was replaced by Matt Dickerson who bowled his leg spin very well but Bromley 4s continued to make good progress until Dickerson struck the ball before drinks and removed their opener who had made a very good 48 to leave the score at 88-3 off 20 overs. Hugo Tudor replaced Ollie Bromley and struck twice in his second over as the Vine started to get on top and Dickerson and Tudor dried up the runs before Dickerson struck again finishing with figures of 2-22. The Bromley tail then found ways to get out and Tudor picked up a further 3 wickets to finish with 5-22 before Nigel Taylor ran out their last batsman with a fantastic direct hit to leave Bromley defending 129 all out.
The chase proved to be far from straightforward .Charlie Williams and Nigel Taylor got off to a rapid start before they were out in consecutive overs and were followed by Pulkit Verma and 35-0 had become 36-3. Andy Akerman hit a few nice shots before falling LBW and Dan Read was bowled by a googly from one of their leg spinners and the Vine were now 60-5. Fortunately Hilton Henderson and Ollie Bromley then batted together really well hitting the bad balls and scampering singles when they could and with both getting into the thirties the Vine reached their target and won by 5 wickets
