The Vine 3rd XI hosted Chelsfield on a rather blustery day at Otford.
Skipper Williams lost the toss, again, and much to his surprise Chelsfield opted to bat.
Hugo Copper-Fogarty opened the attack and bowled with great pace & accuracy, regularly beating the bat. From the other end, into the wind, Ryan Gavin likewise bowled with pace & accuracy. Gavin got the breakthrough in his 2nd over, bowling a peach of a ball to bowl the dangerous Chelsfield opener. Both bowlers continued with excellent pace & accuracy and regular wickets fell. They both bowled their 9 overs & at this stage Chelsfield had been reduced to 35-6. Gavin finished with an excellent spell of 4-11 and HCF with 2-17.
Poole & Dickinson were introduced into the attack & continued the accurate bowling with runs hard to come by. They each picked up 2 wickets, finishing with 2-13 & 2-14 respectively from 7 overs. Chelsfield were bowled out for 65 in 32.2 overs, 14 of these were maidens which was a fantastic effort.
The Vine started their reply confidently & Deacon and Akerman scored freely until Deacon was caught behind for 10. Akerman continued to punish any slightly off target bowling before he was out for an excellent 28. Williams & Verma continued to tick the score over until the target was reached in 10.5 overs.
An excellent victory.
